Racingline EA888 Gen.4 Intercooler System – MQB EVO (VWR141000)
The Racingline Performance Intercooler is a direct-fit upgrade for the latest 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.4 ‘Evo’ engine found in the MQB Evo platform. The factory intercooler, while adequate for standard driving, quickly runs out of capacity under sustained hard use or when paired with tuning upgrades. As intake air temperatures (IATs) climb, the ECU pulls timing and boost to protect the engine, and you lose power. This intercooler is built to keep that heat under control.
Why the standard intercooler falls short
Heat soak is the main issue. On a spirited drive, track day, or any stage of tuning, the OE cooler simply can’t shed heat fast enough. You’ll feel it as inconsistent performance, especially on second and third pulls. The Racingline unit tackles this with a much larger core and improved airflow path, giving consistent power delivery instead of a strong first run followed by a noticeable drop-off.
Core design and airflow
The intercooler uses a no-compromise ‘plate and bar’ construction with a 70mm deep core, increasing internal volume by around 96% compared to standard. Taller internal tubes improve boost flow through the core, while the cast end tanks are shaped to spread air evenly across the full depth of the cooler, reducing turbulence and pressure drop.
Inlet and outlet ports are enlarged to 70mm (up from the OE 60mm), better matching the airflow requirements of the Gen.4 engine, particularly when tuned.
What’s included in the kit
- High-flow 70mm deep ‘plate and bar’ intercooler core with cast end tanks
- Pair of reinforced, internally-wired multi-ply silicone boost hoses
- Four stainless steel Mikalor clamps
Everything needed for a clean, complete installation is in the box. No additional couplers, brackets, or hardware are required.
Realistic expectations
On a standard car, you may not see a large peak power figure change on a single dyno pull, but you will see far more consistent power across repeated runs and longer drives. On a tuned car (Stage 1 and beyond), the benefit becomes much more obvious, as the larger core can actually support the extra airflow and heat that tuning generates. Think of it as protecting and unlocking the work your tune is doing.
Fitment
Designed for 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.4 engines on the MQB Evo platform, covering popular VW, Audi, SEAT/Cupra and Skoda models such as the Golf 8 GTI, Golf 8 R, Audi S3 8Y, Cupra Leon and Formentor, and Octavia vRS Mk4. Please use the vehicle lookup on the Racingline Shop or check the Vehicle Fitment tab to confirm compatibility with your exact model and year before purchase.
